Patrick Grant - Owner & Certified Arborist - NE6759A

Patrick was born and raised in Somerset, England. He studied agriculture at Somerset College of Technology, and worked in dairy farming until his wanderlust and passion for sailing led him to become a professional crewman and captain. He eventually sailed his way to North America, settling just outside of Montreal, where he worked as a machine technician for many years. His sailing and mechanical skills have transferred well to tree work.

Patrick McKelvey - Certified Arborist - NE7106A

Patrick McKelvey, a native Vermonter, joined the Heritage team in 2014. After earning a degree in arboriculture at Paul Smith's College, he worked in Pennsylvania doing tree work for a year and a half. His love of the home state compelled him to head North again, so he could be closer to family and favorite outdoor activities. Patrick has a passion bordering on obsession for tree climbing, and brings lots of positive energy and enthusiasm to everyone around him. In his free time, Patrick enjoys playing basketball or puttering on creative projects. He dreams of someday buying a sailboat and learning how to sail.

Jonathan is originally from Quechee, Vermont and moved to the Burlington area in 2017.  He has always loved nature and likes to spend a lot of time outdoors. Jonathan's work with trees began at the age of 23, when he took a job as a logger. From there his interest grew into forestry, biology and land management, leading him to becoming a part of the Heritage team. Jonathan enjoys many aspects of his work, especially plant health care. He is currently studying to become a certified arborist.  When he's not on the job, Jonathan is very active and participates in CrossFit competitions, triathlons and cycling.

Derek Chappell - Certified Arborist - RM7492A

Derek Chappell originally hails from Wisconsin. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, he moved to Colorado in 2007. While searching for a job in the journalism field, he found tree work by chance, and loved it so much he stuck with it. He earned his arborist certification in 2012, and quickly became a skilled climber, having to (unfortunately) do many removals of dead pines ravaged by the notorious Mountain pine beetle. He became a contract climber and worked in areas near Boulder and Denver, in Colorado's Front Range.

After first studying Sustainable Agriculture at Green Mountain College, he went on to graduate from Paul Smith’s College with a degree in Arboriculture.  Previously, he worked for the City of Burlington as an arborist technician and for three years with Heritage between 2012 through 2014.  Ethan has rejoined our team in a management capacity and we are so excited to have him back!
